The idea for implementation of the Suite of Prlekija project has matured over several years. The first steps were made in 2019 when we decided to at least symbolically repay the thirty-year support of the local audience, local communities and donors by reviving Prlekija's musical folklore.
The song was premiered at a formal event held at the end of November 2019 to celebrate Orfej’s 30th anniversary.
In 2020, the Suite of Prlekija project – Choir Folklore of Prlekija brought us success in the 5th public call for the selection of operations to achieve the goals of the Local Development Strategy in the area of LAS Prlekija. The obtained co-financing from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development enables us to continue and expand our work in the field of research, revival and spreading of the folk musical heritage of Prlekija.
We have invited several partners to participate, including the Slavko Osterc Veržej Cultural Society (Folklore group Leščeček), the Wolf Studio, Marko Wolf, s. p., the Ivan Cankar Elementary School Ljutomer and its branch school, i.e., the Cvetko Golar Elementary School, the Anton Krempl Mala Nedelja Cultural Society, the Apače Folk Singers Society, the Sveti Jurij ob Ščavnici Female Singers Cultural Society, and the Vrelec Singing Group Cultural Society, Radenci. As part of the project, we are going to perform several concerts presenting folk music from the Prlekija region and organise a competition to obtain choral arrangements of traditional folk songs from the region. We will also prepare materials for primary schools, provide audio-visual documentation of the project and publish a printed collection of scores obtained through the competition.
